independence

we are having a streak of bad luck with holidays... my husband has been wanting a new flat screen for years, waiting for the prices to drop down to a manageable level. we went to oregon in spring, his plan was to buy one there, no sales tax. great plan, but he was so upset doing work on his blackberry, tv shopping fell by the wayside...

next up was fathers day, the perfect time to indulge him... that is the day tucker died and sadly we spent the day burying and mourning him. no interest in tv that day...

next up, 4th of july, yep perfect time to get him a new tv! he has been preshopping, selecting the best price etc, all we had to do was drive into town, pick it up and come home and finally he would get to enjoy his newly deserved toy... it was going great, even got deferred billing, my favorite kind of shopping! we are driving home, happily chatting about his new tv, plans to lounge and bbq at the pool, happy 4th of july for us! then boom... i scream STOP THE CAR... and so begins the end to our perfect day...

i leap out of the car, stopping traffic and snatch up an injured bleeding kitten in the middle of the road, dragging its broken leg, destined for death... you have to know me to understand this is my lot in life... i have tons of animals, all strays i have found and kept, but we are bursting at the seams and getting a new pet is like me adding another 10 pounds on the extra 100 i am already carrying, its just not a good thing! it is a given, whatever i see, i keep, but thats not my husbands idea of a good day... the irony of this is that if we had not been out buying a tv, or if we had just lingered a bit longer, or left a bit earlier, this destiny of mine may not have happened...

for years my husband has wanted this tv, but he wasn't paying several $1000 for a tv. he has waited and waited for the perfect time, he was happy, a new big ole tv at the right price, and in one second it all changed and we are driving off to the vets on holiday... their first estimate was $1141... i have just held this kitten for 15' and this is my destiny? i begin to barter and question and challenge their pricing, i have spent too much money at the vets not to know i was getting ripped off, but its 4th of july and i have a sick kitten and didn't have many open places to go... after expressing my opinion loudly, a new estimate arrives that i can live with and the little one is off for repairs.

so no pool, no bbq, no carefree day in the garden, but meet our newest addition, Independence, nickname indy, 1.5 pounds, 8 weeks and twice the cost of scotts new tv... the sad thing is scott could have bot the tv 3 years ago at the cost of todays trip into town... indy has a multitude of ailments, fleas, ear mites, ear infection, abscess, fever, broken leg and severely underweight, but he is a survivor and we will be here to make sure this rough start doesn't stop him from having a wonderful new life with us. when it rains it pours, and you can certainly say its been raining cats and dogs for us this month~

I think I'm in love. What a little sweetheart. Indie is going to have the perfect life with you and Scott, Maggie and the new pup. Every kitten should have a puppy to grow up with.

Jain, Indie is adorable! And what bad luck he had until he had you & Scott drop into his little life! What lucky fur babies Indie, Maggie, & the new puppy are. A near perfect life but for the heat. I am feeling your pain. We are at 103 & hummid. YUCK! The central coast of California was divine. Never over 70 degrees. Just trying to figure out how we can stay out there for the hot months of the year & then return to Texas the rest of the time. Enjoy your new babies.

There's nothing good on tv anyway, but kittys are always fun.
